1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device when you visit. They allow the site to remember certain things about your visit — such as your consent preferences — across page loads and browser sessions. The cookies used on SaskatoonFjord are either essential (required for the site to function correctly) or analytics-related (used to measure aggregate traffic when you consent).
SaskatoonFjord also uses browser localStorage — a similar mechanism built into modern browsers — to store your cookie-consent preference. localStorage is not technically a "cookie," but functionally it serves the same purpose in this context. sessionStorage is used by the game engine to hold the persistent multiplier value during your play session; this is cleared automatically when you close the browser tab.
2. Cookie inventory
| Name / Key | Type | Purpose | Duration | Required |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| sf_ck_ok | localStorage | Records that you dismissed the cookie banner. Prevents it from reappearing on every page load. | Until browser storage cleared | Essential |
| sf_age_ok | sessionStorage | Records that you confirmed you are 18 or older during this browser session. | Browser tab lifetime | Essential |
| sf_mult | sessionStorage | Stores your current session multiplier value so it persists across page navigations within the same tab. | Browser tab lifetime | Functional |
| _ga, _ga_*, _gid | Google cookie | Google Analytics — measures aggregate page views, session counts, and traffic sources. Set only when analytics consent is granted. | Up to 2 years | Optional (analytics) |
We do not use advertising cookies, retargeting cookies, or third-party social-media tracking pixels. The Font Awesome and Bootstrap CDN connections may result in connection-level logging by Cloudflare, but they do not set cookies on your device.
3. Google Consent Mode
SaskatoonFjord implements Google Consent Mode v2. By default, when you first arrive on the site, analytics storage and ad-related storage are set to "denied." This means no Google Analytics measurement data is collected until you consent by clicking "Accept All" on the cookie banner.
If you select "Essential Only," only the essential and functional items listed in the table above are active. Google Analytics remains disabled. This setting persists for the duration of your localStorage storage (until you clear it or change your preference).
Security storage is always set to "granted" because it covers basic session-security mechanisms (such as CSRF protection) that are required for the site to function safely. This does not result in any personal-data transmission to Google for security purposes in our implementation.
4. How to manage cookies
You can change your cookie preferences at any time by clearing your browser's localStorage and then revisiting the site. The cookie banner will reappear and you can make a fresh selection.
You can also manage cookies through your browser's settings. Most browsers allow you to view, block, and delete cookies. Note that blocking certain cookies (specifically sf_age_ok) may prevent the age gate from being dismissed correctly, which could affect your ability to use the game.
On Chrome: Settings > Privacy and security > Cookies and other site data.
On Firefox: Settings > Privacy and Security > Cookies and Site Data.
On Safari: Settings > Privacy > Manage Website Data.
You can opt out of Google Analytics specifically by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
5. Third-party cookies
The only third-party cookies set on SaskatoonFjord are Google Analytics cookies (_ga, _ga_*, _gid), and these are only set when you consent to analytics. We have configured Google Analytics to use IP anonymization and to honor Canadian data-residency preferences where available. Google's cookie policy applies to those cookies: policies.google.com/technologies/cookies.
No other third-party company sets cookies through our site. CDN connections to Cloudflare (Bootstrap, Font Awesome) and Google (Fonts) result in standard HTTP request-response cycles but do not result in cookies being placed on your device by those services.
6. Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy when we add or remove cookies, change our analytics provider, or when applicable law requires it. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top. For material changes, we will display a notice on the homepage.
Change log: May 2026 — initial publication. Documented all four cookie/storage entries. Added Google Consent Mode v2 explanation. Added full cookie inventory table with retention periods.
