Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 22, 2026

1. Who we are

SaskatoonFjord is a free social game operated from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. Our contact email is [email protected]. We do not have a physical public reception; correspondence by email is preferred.

This Privacy Policy applies to the SaskatoonFjord website and its embedded game. It describes what data we collect through standard web-server and analytics tooling, what we explicitly do not collect, how long we retain it, and how you can exercise your rights under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy legislation.

2. What we collect

We collect a small set of technical data through standard web infrastructure: the IP address your browser presents to our server at the time of each request, the page URL you requested, the HTTP referrer your browser sends, the user-agent string that identifies your browser and operating system, and the timestamp of each request. This information is recorded in standard web-server access logs.

If we use a third-party analytics tool (currently Google Analytics, subject to the consent controls described below), that tool may collect similar technical signals — aggregated page views, session durations, approximate geographic region, browser type, and device category. We do not receive or store individual visitor identifiers from that tool; we configure it to anonymize IP addresses at collection.

If you contact us by email, we receive your email address, the subject and body of your message, and any attachments you send. We store this correspondence in our email account for up to three years unless you request earlier deletion.

The game itself stores your current session credits and the persistent multiplier value in your browser's sessionStorage (cleared when you close the tab) and a cookie-consent preference in localStorage (persists until cleared). Neither of these values is transmitted to our servers.

3. What we do not collect

We do not collect your name, postal address, telephone number, date of birth, payment card details, bank account information, national identification number, government-issued ID, or any other directly identifying personal information — because we never ask for it. There is no account creation, no login, no registration form, and no payment flow on SaskatoonFjord.

We do not collect precise geolocation data. We do not operate any form of tracking pixel beyond the analytics integration described above, and that integration is subject to your consent preferences. We do not share, sell, rent, or broker visitor information with advertising networks, data brokers, or third-party marketers.

We do not collect device fingerprints, biometric data, or any information derived from your camera, microphone, or other device sensors. The game runs entirely in your browser without requesting access to those inputs.

4. Third-party processors

Our web server is hosted by a Canadian hosting provider, which processes the server-log data described above on our behalf under a service agreement. That provider does not use your data for its own purposes.

We use Google Analytics (Google LLC, United States) for aggregate site measurement, subject to your consent defaults set via the Google Consent Mode v2 block on each page. Analytics processing is denied by default until you consent. Google's privacy policy governs their handling of any data they receive: policies.google.com/privacy.

We use Cloudflare cdnjs to serve the Bootstrap CSS framework and Font Awesome icons. Cloudflare processes the connection metadata (IP, user-agent, referrer) necessary to deliver those files. Cloudflare's privacy policy governs their logging practices.

We use Google Fonts to serve the Rajdhani and Nunito typefaces. Requests to Google Fonts expose your IP address to Google's infrastructure. Google's privacy policy applies.

5. Cookies and localStorage

We use browser cookies and localStorage for two purposes: (a) to record your cookie-consent preference so we do not show the banner on every page load, and (b) to enable the third-party analytics integration when you consent to it. The analytics integration uses Google's cookies to distinguish sessions and measure aggregate traffic patterns.

The game uses sessionStorage (not a cookie) to maintain the persistent multiplier value during your play session. sessionStorage is cleared automatically when you close the browser tab and is never sent to our servers.

For a full inventory of cookies set on SaskatoonFjord, see our Cookie Policy.

6. How we use the data

Server logs are used to diagnose technical problems, monitor for unusual traffic patterns that might indicate misuse, and produce aggregate statistics about which pages are visited. We do not use server logs to build visitor profiles or to target visitors with advertising.

Analytics data (when consented) is used to understand which features visitors engage with, how long typical sessions last, and whether the responsible-play pages receive meaningful traffic. These aggregate insights inform our development priorities.

Email correspondence is used to respond to your message and, where the topic is a recurring issue, to improve the site or documentation.

7. Data retention

Server access logs are retained for up to 90 days, after which they are automatically purged by the hosting provider. Analytics data in Google Analytics is subject to our data-retention setting of 14 months. Email correspondence is retained for up to 36 months and then deleted unless there is a legal obligation to keep it longer.

Cookie-consent preferences stored in localStorage are retained until you clear your browser storage or explicitly withdraw consent using the button on the Cookie Policy page. sessionStorage data is cleared when you close the tab.

8. Your rights under PIPEDA

Under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), you have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to access it, and to correct it if it is inaccurate. You also have the right to withdraw consent to our processing of your data and to request deletion of the personal information we hold, subject to limited exceptions for information we are legally obligated to retain.

Residents of Quebec have additional rights under Loi 25 (Law 25), including the right to data portability and to be notified of privacy incidents. Residents of British Columbia and Alberta are subject to PIPA (Personal Information Protection Act) of their respective provinces, which grants similar rights to those in PIPEDA.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected]. We will acknowledge your request within 10 business days and fulfill it within 30 business days. If we cannot fulfill a request (for example, because we do not hold identifiable information about you), we will explain why.

9. Security

SaskatoonFjord is served exclusively over HTTPS. Server-log files are stored on encrypted volumes. Access to our email and hosting accounts is protected by strong passwords and, where available, multi-factor authentication.

Because we collect only technical metadata and not personally identifying information (no names, no payment data, no government IDs), the consequences of any accidental disclosure are limited. Nevertheless, we treat all data with the same security controls we would apply to personally identifying information.

If we become aware of a privacy incident affecting your data, we will notify the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada within 72 hours of discovery if the incident poses a real risk of significant harm. We will notify affected individuals as required under applicable law.

10. International transfers

Our web server is located in Canada. The third-party services described in section 4 (Google Analytics, Cloudflare, Google Fonts) may process data on servers located outside Canada, including in the United States. We rely on the contractual protections offered by those services' terms and, where applicable, Standard Contractual Clauses under EU data-protection law, to ensure adequate protection.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when we change our data practices or when applicable law requires it. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of the page. If the changes are material, we will note them prominently on the homepage for 30 days following the update.

Change log: May 2026 — initial publication. Added PIPEDA, Loi 25, and PIPA section. Documented Google Consent Mode v2 consent defaults. Clarified server-log retention period.
